We are currently seeking an Editor/s* for The Podium, our members' website**.

The abcd Podium

In 2012, abcd upgraded its website to include a members' area (The Podium), which contains an extensive amount of useful material for choral directors:

  • an archive of articles from Mastersinger, the Association's magazine over the past 25 years,
  • articles by abcd members of interest to the broad membership,
  • news of abcd events around the UK, including training courses,
  • reviews of publications,
  • the membership directory,
  • a forum to air or seek views on choral and related matters,
  • a link to Choir & Organ, the bi-monthly magazine published by Rhinegold, which is available on-line free to abcd members.

In order to maintain interest, it is intended that one main area of The Podium (reviews, news or training) will be refreshed each month, and gradually to extend the material available.

The Role

We are looking for someone who, reporting to the Board and working with the General Secretary and other volunteers, can play a major part in bringing a distinctive and appealing overall shape, character and content to The Podium.

Main tasks would include:

  • Coordinating the commissioning of new material, whether written, audio or video,
  • Working with the Reviews Editor to maintain a useful library of reviews of new publications,
  • Publishing other articles or items of interest in a variety of media,
  • Working with the Director of Training to plan and develop The Podium's distance learning function,
  • Advise on the design and presentation of The Podium

Specific skills and knowledge

The ideal candidate/s will possess

  • a broad knowledge of and enthusiasm for choral music
  • proven writing and networking skills
  • experience of editing a magazine or newsletter is preferable
  • a working knowledge of the capabilities of the new digital media
  • an ability to build a team of contributors

Commitment

As a minimum, the Podium Editor/s should be able to put aside two days per month. He/she should be available for regular meetings with the General Secretary and key volunteers, attend some of the Board and Council meetings, UK Convention, and other national or regional events as appropriate.

Being a key volunteer for abcd requires strong commitment but it is also an extremely rewarding experience. Volunteers invariably learn new skills as a result of their involvement, and meet a number of new colleagues along the way.

All out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

If you would like to be considered for this crucial voluntary post, or know someone who would, please contact the General Secretary Rachel Greavesk or Andrew Potter, one of our Trustees, in the first instance, who can provide more information.

Applications should to be sent to Rachel Greaves, the General Secretary, by 21 May 2013.

* abcd is happy to consider a job-share for this post

**abcd is also seeking a volunteer advertising manager to attract and administer advertising from publishers and other suppliers and services on the website and in the Leading Notes newsletter.

We are also always seeking people to join the team of reviewers of new publications.

If you are interested, please contact the General Secretary Rachel Greaves
