Members honoured in New Year Honours List

No fewer than three abcd members have been included in the Queen's New Years Honours list.

Ronald Corp, Founder and Artistic Director of the New London Orchestra, receives an OBE for services to music.

Ralph Allwood, who was Precentor and Director of Music at Eton College for 26 years, receives an MBE for services to choral music, as does Marilyn Smith, the Conductor and Musical Director of the Glasgow Phoenix Choir.

Arts Council announce successful Music Hub applications »
The Arts Council today announced the nationwide network of 122 music education hubs that will play a key role in ensuring that every child has the opportunity to experience a high quality music education. abcd welcomes the Arts Council announcement of successful Music Hubs and the aspirations of the Department for Education’s publication of The Importance of Music – A National Plan for Music Education while having concerns over some of the practicalities.

After our involvement providing training and workshops for several choirs following the last BBC Performing Arts Fund, we are looking forward to hearing more details about the 2012 Community Music funding. Launching in May, the Community Music scheme will support grassroots music groups from across the UK....

Scotland welcomes the Olympic Torch with a Summer of Song »
Scotland will burst into song as the Olympic Torch weaves its way across the country from 8th to 14th June 2012, before a final visit on 21 June. Singing a mixture of local favourites, new commissions, anthems, pop songs or traditional music, each community will unite to celebrate in song the values of the Olympic Torch: peace, unity and friendship.

Did you enjoy Bob Chilcott's workshop on his Requiem at Convention 2011? Or perhaps with your choir since? Since its world première just two years ago, Bob Chilcott's Requiem has received more than 50 performances in at least 12 different countries including the UK and USA, Hong Kong, Spain, France, and the Netherlands. On Monday 26 March the much-anticipated first recording is released on Hyperion, performed by the Choir of Wells Cathedral and members of The Nash Ensemble, conducted by Matthew Owens, with Laurie Ashworth (soprano), Andrew Staples (tenor), and Jonathan Vaughn (organ). There will also be a concert in Wells Cathedral on Saturday 5th May.

National Association of Choirs Annual Conference now open to non-members »
The National Conference of the National Association of Choirs will be held in Bowness on Windermere from 23rd-25th March and for the first time is open to non-members as well as members.
