| ALYTH CHORAL SOCIETY MUSIC DIRECTOR vacancy |
03/11/09
|
|
We invite applications for the post of music director/conductor to be appointed in Summer 2010 when our current MD and founder, Vivienne Bellos, retires after more than 25 years' service We are a Jewish, SATB choir based in North West London, whose principal event is our December concert featuring an oratorio or similar, usually based on Old Testament themes, always with an orchestra of first class professional session players and fine vocal soloists. For these concerts we normally invite a guest conductor. We have recently worked with Ronald Corp performing one of his own compositions. We have performed Beethoven, Bernstein, Handel, Haydn, Constant Lambert, Mendelssohn, Schubert and Vaughan Williams amongst many others. We usually stage two further concerts, in spring and summer, conducted by our MD, in which we perform a very wide variety of music, some Jewish but mostly secular, ranging from Elgar to Gershwin and Parry to Cole Porter. Our next performance will be Brahms Requiem (in English) and a recital of Mahler's Five Rückert Lieder, by our retiring MD. Applicants are encouraged to attend to hear the choir in concert Currently we number 35-40 members of mixed ability; some of us are sight readers but most learn their parts at rehearsals and with the help of tapes and CDs. We rehearse on Tuesday nights for 2 hours in Golders Green and our sessions are compatible with school terms. Candidates must communicate enthusiasm and vitality. The new music director will take rehearsals and plan programmes in consultation with the committee. We would also like the new Director to further the education of the Society by incorporating, as appropriate, some tuition in sight-reading, vocal technique and other musical skills. We would also be happy if the new incumbent were capable of conducting our orchestral concerts. The music director will be responsible to and supported by the Society's committee. The post is a paid position with remuneration/expenses, dependent on age and experience, to be discussed at interview. We welcome
applications from candidates with choral directing and conducting experience.
Some acquaintance with and appreciation of Jewish Music would be helpful.
The appointment would be for an initial period of one year, to include
a probationary period. Please
send a letter of application and CV including details of musical qualifications
and experience to our chairman, Alison Friend, via email: consultafriend@gmail.com For further information visit our website: www.alythchoralsociety.org.uk |
