Sheffield Bach Society
07/05/08

Our Musical Director, Peter Collis, wishes to retire in June 2009, so we are looking for a worthy successor.

Sheffield Bach Choir has been in existence since 1950, and has built up a tradition of excellent choral singing, using the finest affordable soloists
and professional orchestral players. It has a membership of about 60, and entry is by audition. Its members are good sight-readers, and concerts - 6 per season including an annual performance of The Messiah - are often performed with only 4 rehearsals (The Messiah usually with only 1 or 2). From time to time the Choir also undertakes "Outside Visits", i.e. smaller scale concerts that are appropriate with organ accompaniment in say, village churches. These are intended as fund-raising events, sometimes for the Choir itself, but more often for the Church/organisation that has invited us. We aim not to make a loss on these concerts.

Under our Conductor, Mr Peter Collis (who has conducted us since 2000), the Choir has continued to perform to a high standard. We wish this level to be at least maintained, and if possible enhanced.
