Brixham Orpheus celebrates its 70th Anniversary this year. During the last seven decades there have been seven musical directors and we are now seeking our eighth.
We need someone with vision and understanding to take on this vital role. The ideal candidate will have good technical knowledge of the needs of a traditional male voice choir and four part harmony. The current ensemble is small in number but split roughly evenly between the four vocal sections. We have built an extensive repertoire since 1954 and will continue to draw upon it but the new MD will need to bring in some more contemporary pieces.
The role holder will be expected to prepare for and lead weekly practices, which are held on Thursday evenings, and to prepare for concerts throughout the year. There are some fixed concert dates during the year including an annual major concert, a series of outdoor events during July and August and a Christmas concert. These are usually held with guest artists. There are a small number of other concerts arranged each year, including some civic and private events. The role holder is also encouraged to join the choir at a few social events during each year.
This is a paid position and will be by negotiation.
