Crowborough Choral Society is seeking an inspiring and energetic Music Director, who can further develop the choir and motivate our members to a high standard of performance in an engaging and enthusiastic manner that encourages everybody to make a real commitment to the choir and attracts new members.
The appointment will start on 1 September 2024. Our current MD, Mark Beesley, is retiring, having significantly enhanced the musical and vocal performance of the choir.

Of crucial importance is an ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages, and to enthuse and challenge them, while striving for excellence in performance. An ability and commitment to fostering good vocal technique and singing standards is essential. A high level of musicianship is a pre-requisite, as is knowledge of the choral repertoire and the ability to plan, with the Repertoire Committee, a schedule of music for each season and effectively structure rehearsal time.
Crowborough Choral Society, a registered charity in 1967, performs three concerts per year, two of which can be with orchestra and professional soloists. Our less formal summer concerts cover a wide range of musical styles. We currently rehearse each Wednesday during school term time at 17.30 to 19.00 and employ a regular accompanist. The choir currently has 60 members.
The choir is self-financing and managed by an elected committee of Trustees with whom the Music Director will liaise closely. The Repertoire Committee, on which the Music Director sits, manages music selection and the details of concerts. Remuneration is based on a fee per rehearsal and per concert and will reflect the experience and standing of the successful applicant.
