Association Of British Choral Directors

New Course Structure for the Association!

Since running our first course in 1999, we have been at the forefront of training choral leaders in the UK. We have been delighted to see an increase in training provision during this time, offering a variety of options for people leading singing up and down the country.

As the choral landscape of the country continues to change, so do we - to that end, we have revised our training offer to ensure that we are still providing training that meets the needs of leaders of choirs of all age groups, genres and experience.

Our new course structure will be as follows:

In 2017 we will also be piloting a new course for secondary school teachers to improve choral music making at this level of the education system. Following the pilot, this course will be available to schools and hubs across the UK in the 2018/19 academic year.

Some courses remain unchanged - our Advanced Course will continue to operate as it has before - while others vary slightly from their previous incarnations. The Progressive Course will be very similar in nature to the Intermediate course, only now as a practical course with the option for participants to enter the DipABRSM after the course finishes. Leading the Singing and Foundation replace Initial I and II levels, while the Emerging Course is a brand new practical course aimed at those who previously found themselves between Initial II and Intermediate level

You can find out more about all our courses here, where there are links to information about each individual course (including a new FAQ page).

We will be running the first courses under the new structure later this year, with combined Leading the Singing and Foundation Courses in London and Birmingham. Our first Progressive course will run in 2018, with Advanced and Emerging courses to follow. We will continue to run one-day events at all levels.
