abcd publishes research paper on the impact of COVID 19 on choral activity

abcd has published a research paper on the impact of the COVID 19 virus on choral activity in the UK.

The report, prepared by Professor Martin Ashley, an abcd trustee, provides a survey of research into the current thinking about how choirs and conductors might resume rehearsing and performing.

Conclusions from the research paper can be seen here. It is strongly recommended that the full paper is read and this can be found in our journal section here.

It should be noted that an organisation such as abcd can give no definitive advice on this. We are presenting the current scientific thinking and examples of practice elsewhere, but circumstances inevitably differ. If and when Government guidance relating to gatherings of people permits the resumption of choral activities, it will be for individual choirs and conductors make their own risk assessment, based on the scientific advice, according to circumstance.

abcd will continue to monitor scientific advice about and practical examples of the resumption of singing in choirs and report accordingly in due course.

Watch our webinar on 'The changing face of choirs'

We had a big response to last Saturday's webinar - The changing face of choirs: adapting to Covid-19. Huge thanks to our panel - Ben Selby, Esmerelda Conde Ruiz, Daniel Spreadbury and Professor Martin Ashley for their insights and contributions, as well as to Amy Bebbington and Mark Sproson who chaired such an important and interesting discussion.

If you missed the live event and are interested to catch up a recording of the webinar is available on our YouTube channel.
