The government-commissioned Review of Cultural Education in England has been released and recommends that all children should have an entitlement to receive a set amount of cultural education during their years in school, meaning more exposure to subjects such as drama, arts, dance and music. The report found that cultural education was "patchy" and acknowledged that there was a "good deal of concern" about the future of arts subjects in the curriculum.

In some lessons, teachers do not play or sing a single note, according to a report looking at music education as a whole. The study was based on evidence from inspections of 90 primary and 90 secondary schools from 2008 to 2011.Out of these, 68 were rated "outstanding" for music education and 41 were judged "inadequate".
