Associate Conductor and Music Director

London & South East

Organisation: The Occam Singers

The Occam Singers is looking for a new Associate Musical Director. The Associate will deputise for the MD (current MD, David Gibson, in post for 30 years), accompany concerts and some rehearsals, plan and conduct occasional concerts and provide programme notes. We are very keen to appoint an Associate who can contribute on a consistent basis so we can develop the rapport which leads to the high quality performances to which we aspire and which our audiences have come to expect. We are looking for a candidate who is an accomplished keyboard player but who also has a good knowledge of the choral repertoire and can convey this love of the music to the choir along with relevant vocal techniques.

Our chamber choir of over 30 years standing of about 35 auditioned mixed voices enjoys singing a wide repertoire of sacred and secular music, both accompanied and a cappella, performing in the Guildford area. We put on 4 - 5 concerts each season which runs from September - July. The choir rehearses at Onslow Village Hall, Guildford on Sundays from 7.15pm to 9.30pm, working on a cycle of approximately 6-7 rehearsals prior to concert day. (For most concerts, the Associate may be required to deputise for a rehearsal, play for the pre-concert rehearsal and provide piano/organ accompaniment on concert day.)

Remuneration is negotiable but is in line with market rates and will comprise a set fee per rehearsal plus additional fees for concert rehearsals and performances.

Further details about the choir and details of past and future performances can be seen on our website www.occamsingers.co.uk or on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/The-Occam-Singers

Interested candidates should submit a CV to the choir's Chair, Stephanie Comley at: ScomleyOccam@gmail.com providing an indication of the remuneration expected. If short-listed you will be asked to attend a short interview and direct a 20 minute rehearsal with the choir.

The closing date for applications is 5 November

Short-listed candidates will be notified by Monday 20 November

Rehearsals will take place on 4 December
