Music Director

London & South East

Organisation: Downland Chorale, Surrey

We, the Downland Chorale based in Old Coulsdon, Surrey are inviting applications for the post of Music Director as from September, 2017.

We have 60 members at present in our mixed voice choir, and we rehearse on Monday evenings from 8 to 10 pm at St. John the Evangelist's Church, Old Coulsdon.

We perform three concerts a year, featuring a wide range of music both sacred and secular.  For example, our forthcoming concert is Schubert's Mass in G together with his Tantum Ergo, Haydn's Insanae et Vanae Curae and Vivaldi's Credo. Our summer concert will feature operatic choruses.
Over the past few years we have performed amongst other things Mozart's Great Mass in C minor, Orff's Carmina Burana, Vivaldi's Gloria and traditional Gospel Music, accompanied by a local gospel Choir.

In addition to these concerts we hold a Workshop every year which is open to anybody who wants to come along and sing.  This February we shall be performing extracts from works by Gilbert and Sullivan.

We wish to appoint a Music Director who will be expected to produce, in consultation with the Committee, a planned programme for the year ahead, and are looking for someone with a sense of humour whose approach to rehearsals and performances will be dynamic and enthusiastic, with the necessary drive and clarity of instruction to keep all members engaged.

We pay a very good market rate for rehearsals and concert fees and the new Music Director will be engaged on a formal contract.

Please send your application together with a musical CV by March 1st to the Chairperson, Anne Odams, at anne28o@aol.com.
