Musical Director

Yorkshire

Organisation: The Chapter House Choir, York

President: The Most Revd. & Rt. Hon. Dr. John Sentamu, Archbishop of York

The Chapter House Choir is seeking a new Musical Director from September 2017.

After 14 highly successful years, our current Musical Director Stephen Williams is moving on. We are a high-quality mixed voice adult chamber choir with an auditioned membership of 36 voices.

We pride ourselves on being a progressive choir, always eager to rise to a challenge and explore new territory, whilst being steeped in the choral music tradition. We strive for the highest possible standards of musicianship and performance.

The Chapter House Choir is an integral part of York's musical culture and has just celebrated its 50th anniversary. The choir performs up to 6 main concerts per year in a range of venues in York and beyond, including York Minster.

Founder Conductor and Vice President Andrew Carter has written many pieces for the choir and the tradition of commissioning works from leading British choral composers continues to this day. Recent commissions include works by Judith Bingham, Bob Chilcott, Gabriel Jackson and Roderick Williams.

Rehearsals take place on Tuesdays during term time in central York, with additional rehearsals during the week of a concert.

Full details including job specification and application requirements are downloadable from our website www.chapterhousechoir.org/mh.html

Please note that the submission deadline is Monday 27th February. This gives you the opportunity to see and hear the choir in action on 25th February at our concert in the Chapter House of York Minster.
