Havering Singers is seeking to appoint a new MD from October 2017, as our MD of the past 11 years, Keith Motson, is moving to a different part of the country. HS is an un-auditioned SATB choir of around 90 singers ranging in age and ability but all enjoying the thrill and pleasure of making music. We perform 4 or 5 concerts each year. Our repertoire is diverse; in the past 5 years we have performed works by Brahms, Durufle, Elgar, Faure, Gounoud, Handel, Jenkins, Mozart, Puccini Rutter, Stainer, Verdi and of course, Vivaldi. To this we should add music from musical theatre and carols, both traditional and contemporary.
The post of MD attracts a fee on a per-rehearsal basis with an additional fee for concerts. Payment of necessary travelling expenses will be available.
We would expect candidates to have some prior experience of running similar adult choirs, have keyboard skills (although we do have a professional accompanist) and be prepared to work alongside the Society's committee in determining programmes, concert dates etc. We are looking for someone who can inspire and engage with the choir and enable us to continue to perform wonderful pieces of music.
