Sidmouth Choral Society is a long-established (161 years), non-auditioned SATB choir of around 60 members with a mix of experience and ability but all enjoying the thrill and pleasure of making music. Our current much-loved MD is retiring after 8 years, during which time she has continually improved our standards and performances, tirelessly and with unfailing good humour.
So we are now looking for a competent, skilled and reliable MD with the passion and enthusiasm to take over the musical leadership of our popular choir, commencing January 2018. We pay an appropriate honorarium.
Rehearsals take place in Sidmouth Methodist Church between 7.30pm-9.30pm on Tuesday nights from early September to late April. We perform two concerts each year in local churches at Christmas and in April. In the past 5 years we have performed works by Handel, Mozart, Vivaldi, Brahms, Faure, Mendelssohn, Poulenc, Jenkins, Rutter, Chilcott and others, as well as a wide range of Christmas music, both traditional and modern. We invite local professional soloists and orchestral players to perform with us in our concerts.
The Society has an active and engaged committee who will work with and support the MD.

The interview/audition process will involve directing the choir in a piece they are currently learning (which will be sent to the shortlised candidates in advance) and in one short unfamiliar piece chosen by the candidate. We will provide an accompanist if required. There will also be an interview with members of the committee.
