London & South East

Organisation: Fulham Camerata Chamber Choir

Fulham Camerata (London SW6) is seeking a new conductor from September 2018. Fulham Camerata is a distinctive, well-respected and financially viable amateur chamber choir which sings to a high standard. Founded in 2007 with a remit to the development of both amateur and professional singing in the local community, Fulham Camerata works with professional singers, soloists and orchestras, typically in the early stages of their careers, and currently employs 3 choral scholars and an accompanist. We have Ralph Allwood as patron and our current Composer in Residence is Ben Rowarth.

The choir, with 30-50 singers, has grown and developed over the past three years under the inspired directorship of James Day. Our recent concert, Handel's Messiah performed by candlelight and with orchestra, attracted an audience of 400. We explore highly varied repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st Century, the well-known to the obscure. We typically perform one concert per term with additional Christmas concerts. We have also sung in music festivals including the Brandenburg and Barnes festivals.

We are now recruiting a Musical Director for September 2018. The candidate must be enthusiastic about working with and encouraging keen amateurs, to help them develop their singing skills and musicianship with confidence. You should be able to inspire the choir, be approachable, have a sense of joy and fun but also have clarity and authority. You should also have the patience and skills required to deal with mixed abilities, helping develop the less experienced while maintaining the interest of the more accomplished.

You must have experience in training choirs and working with soloists, and have a good knowledge of classical choral repertoire. you should be reliable and organized, willing to work closely with the committee, be able to plan suitable programmes (planning 3 concerts in advance), select soloists and professional instrumentalists, contribute programme notes, and have a wish to work with the choir for several years. You should be committed to making rehearsals enjoyable whilst inspiring members to achieve the highest standards and performance.

Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 - 9.30pm at Holy Cross Church, Fulham SW6. A fee of £80 per rehearsal will be paid with, additional concert fees.
