Music Director

South West

Organisation: Wareham Choral Society

Wareham Choral Society is looking to appoint a Director of Music to succeed the distinguished conductor Nigel Groome, who has taken up an appointment at St. Matthews, Westminster.

WCS is a progressive SATB choir of approximately 50 singers. During the past four years the choir has grown in number and expertise. We have expanded our annual programme of Christmas and Spring concerts in Lady St Mary Church, Wareham to include a summer concert of secular music in exciting new venues in Purbeck, including Tyneham Village Barn and the Etches Museum at Kimmeridge.

We seek an MD who will continue to encourage, challenge, and develop the choir's skills in a positive, supportive and enjoyable way.

WCS, formed 70 years ago, is the only choral society serving the community of Wareham. The choir has a strong identity within the town but also attracts members from the wider community and further afield. WCS has a history of collaborating with other local choirs, soloists and instrumentalists.

WCS is a member of the Dorset Guild of Singers, and in alternate years, instead of our own Spring concert, we join forces with other Guild choirs, from all over Dorset, for a joint performance of a major choral work in the Lighthouse in Poole.

The choir season will run from September until the date of the summer concert in July.

We rehearse on Monday nights from 7:30 pm till 9:30pm in Wareham.

Currently we have the following dates booked: Spring Concert April 25th, 2018 when we will join the Dorset Guild of singers to perform Gerontius at the Lighthouse.

The next date to be fixed will be for the Christmas Concert 2018.

WCS expects its Music Director:

The remuneration for this post is to be negotiated, depending on experience.

The closing date for applications is June 1st 2018.
