Deputy Musical Director and Accompanist

London & South East

Organisation: Reading Male Voice Choir

Reading Male Voice Choir is seeking a Deputy Musical Director to accompany the choir at all rehearsals and concerts (on a Roland keyboard), with the opportunity to undertake some conducting duties and go on foreign tours.

RMVC is a leading male voice choir of 75 members with a full programme of concerts - around 10 a year - mainly in the Thames Valley area. We also go on regular overseas tours, including 13-17 June this year to Warsaw, Poland; and host other choirs in Reading. Our repertoire is broad and varied, including spirituals, hymns and other sacred music, pop, folk, show songs and opera choruses.

\n\n We rehearse on Fridays from 7.30pm to 10.00pm, in Lower Earley, Reading. for 40 weeks between September and July. We are looking for an able pianist and accompanist capable of working with choral groups. There will be opportunities to conduct occasional pieces and some conducting ability would be an advantage.

We are looking to appoint as soon as possible, for the remainder of the current season and our 2019-20 season, with the opportunity to continue for future years. The post receives an annual honorarium payment, currently £3,373 this season, which is made in three stage payments during the season and reviewed each year at our July AGM; and will be paid pro rata for the remainder of the 2018-19 season (to July 2019).

The choir was founded in 1971 by Gwyn Arch who was our Musical Director for over 40 years. It is now led by his Deputy, Clive Waterman. The choir is supportive and friendly and the successful person can be sure of a warm welcome. We are a registered charity ourselves, and our concerts raise funds for local charities, to the tune of around £12,000 per season.

Further information about the choir is available on our website, www.rmvc.net and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/readingmvc. Or contact our Secretary whose details can be found there.

Interested candidates should submit an expression of interest and current CV to our Chairman, John Painter, at j.g.painter@hotmail.co.uk by Monday 18 February 2019.
