Organisation: Sandbach Choral Society

We are a non-audition SATB choir with around 70 members and we rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm from September to June with a professional accompanist. We are seeking to appoint an accomplished and professional conductor who will have the energy, enthusiasm, patience and resilience required to choose, direct and conduct challenging music as we build on the recent achievements of the choir and develop its future direction.

Our repertoire is primarily classical but we also include lighter works in our summer concert. We perform four concerts a year, including a Christmas concert, in and around Sandbach with professional soloists and accompaniment.

The Music Director is an ex officio member of the choral society's committee which manages its finances and concert planning.

The successful applicant will have the following responsibilities:

• Work with the committee to plan a varied programme 12-24 months in advance

• Take weekly rehearsals in which the choir's approach to performance and technique are addressed

• Conduct all the choir's concerts and performances

• Engage soloists, accompanists and instrumentalists as necessary for concerts

• Attend committee meetings

• Prepare a report for the AGM

In addition the new Music Director will demonstrate the following key qualities:

• Be an accomplished choral conductor

• Have an extensive knowledge of the choral repertoire

• Be imaginative in planning concerts attractive to audiences within budgetary constraints

• Have a calm and friendly approach to all choir members

• Promote the choir as a valuable local resource.

The closing date for applications is Friday 31st May. Interviews and auditions will be held on Tuesday 11th June and the new musical director will be appointed to commence work with the choir on 1st September, 2019.
