Choral scholars

London & South East

Organisation: Hornsey Parish Church

Hornsey Parish Church is seeking choral scholars for the academic year 2019 - 2020 in all voice parts. Scholarships are worth £750 per annum and are open to singers aged 16 - 30. Auditions will take place at the end of September. To apply, please email the music director, Dr. Edward Hughes (music@hornseyparishchurch.org), indicating your past experience.

Choral scholars should be confident singers, who are comfortable with sight reading. Scholarships would suit sixth form students preparing for choral awards at university, current university students in London, and postgrads with a background in choral singing at university. There will be opportunities for choral scholars to conduct the choir, should they be interested.

Regular term-time commitments comprise a Thursday evening rehearsal (7:30pm - 8:45pm) and a Sunday morning service (9:30am rehearsal, service finishes at 11:30am). The church is conveniently located near to Finsbury Park (Victoria line) and Highgate (Northern line).

Hornsey Parish Church Choir is one of north London's finest church choirs. In addition regular Eucharist services, the choir sings occasional Evensongs and Complines, and performs concerts with professional soloists. Recent highlights include Dvorak’s Te Deum and Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs. Later in 2019, the choir will sing major Advent and Christmas services featuring repertoire from the Renassance to the present day, including a new commission.

The parish of Hornsey believes that safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all those who are vulnerable (children, young people and vulnerable adults). We expect all of our staff, volunteers and those who use our premises to share this commitment and value the support of those who worship here in achieving this.
