Formed in 1852, we are one of the area's leading choral societies, performing a wide variety of classical and modern music. We are a mixed, non-auditioning choir of about 80 members.
Our much- loved Chorusmaster, Sue Hollingworth, is leaving after 17 very happy years. Under her inspirational leadership, the "Phil" is now tackling exciting works by contemporary composers whilst not forgetting the favourite classics.
We welcome applicants from a wide range of candidates and are looking to engage an energetic, enthusiastic, committed person with a sense of humour.
The ideal candidate will hold a recognised qualification in music (e.g. at diploma or degree level) ideally with a specialism in conducting or choral direction, or have experience of working with choirs. As we employ professional soloists and orchestras for our main concerts, the successful candidate will have the ability to conduct an orchestra.
