Principal Conductor

North West

Organisation: Manchester Chamber Choir

Manchester Chamber Choir is looking for an inspiring Principal Conductor, who shares our passion for exploring choral music, to take up post in Autumn 2020. Founded in a front room by friends 17 years ago, MCC continues to recruit some of the North West's best choral singers and enjoys performing a wide range of music from the Renaissance through to living composers, often performing a cappella.

MCC performs four core concerts per year and the Principal Conductor, together with the committee, will be responsible for artistic planning and programming of these events to create a varied and enjoyable core to the season. The Principal Conductor will rehearse and conduct at least three concerts per annual season; a guest conductor is often invited to conduct the fourth concert. Additional responsibilities of the Principal Conductor include contributing towards the development of the choir through attendance and participation at committee meetings, and through auditioning singers.

In addition to our season of concerts, MCC regularly collaborates with a variety of organisations, including the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Buxton Festival, The Manchester Mid-day Concerts Society, Manchester International Festival, the BBC Proms, English Touring Opera and BBC Radio. In recent years MCC has performed with the BBC Phil for the World Premiere of James MacMillan's Credo under Juanjo Mena at the Proms, and the Good Friday broadcast on Radio 3 of Bach's St Matthew Passion under Nicholas Kraemar. MCC has also appeared at the Proms with the HalleĢ Orchestra and Choir under Gianandrea Noseda.

Comfortable working outside the choral repertoire, MCC has provided backing singing for Andrea Bocelli, Jarvis Cocker and The Pet Shop Boys, and recently appeared on Channel 4's drama Ackley Bridge.

Remuneration is negotiable and competitive. The Principal Conductor would be given first refusal for events outside of our season and remuneration for these events would usually be in addition to the agreed yearly package.
