We are a chamber choir based in Otley, West York's, about 28-30 strong, meeting on a Weds evening for about 38 weeks a year, roughly coinciding with school terms. We aim to perform concerts 2/3 times a year and are also available for weddings and other private functions. Founded in 1990 we have only had four MD's in all that time. After being with us for the last 3 years we are very sad to lose our current MD, Lee Wiltamuth, due to a relocation to Tewkesbury. Our repertoire is wide ranging in period and style and we are equally happy with shared and secular music. We sing everything from Madrigals to (songs from) Musicals. We tend not to tackle larger works but have sung Vivaldi's Gloria and Durufle's Requiem with all soloists drawn from our membership. this coming year we are celebrating our 30th Anniversary and are planning a concert featuring items from our beginnings to the present day. Our ideal candidate will be an experienced Choral Director who is happy to conduct and develop a choir of reasonable, but varied, abilities-some of us are music readers, some are not. We range in age from early 30's to mid 80's! He or she should be a good communicator with a sense of humour and have a wide knowledge of a range of musical styles. We would hope that the successful candidate, if both sides are happy after the first year, would be able to remain with us for at least 5 years for stability The MD would be self employed and paid a fee on a basis and level to be agreed. The position will be available from 17th June 2020.
We have an extremely able accompanist who has been with us for over 12 years, who is also a very experienced and accomplished church organist, and a deputy MD who is a singing member of the choir.
The final selection process for shortlisted candidates will include at least 2 interviews and the opportunity to rehearse the choir for about 20 minutes.
