Musical Director

Yorkshire

Organisation: Harrogate Male Voice Choir

HARROGATE Male Voice Choir is seeking a Musical Director who will take up this post at the end of August 2020. That person will be someone with the experience and expertise needed to continue the development of the choir in a variety of styles and genres, and make the choir their priority.

The current MD is Patrick Lee who, in his six years with the choir, has taken it from the ordinary to highly regarded and has expanded its repertoire significantly across various genres. The choir has become used to fresh challenges and improving its standards. It is seeking an MD who will continue that advancement with a target of becoming the best Male Voice Choir in Yorkshire, singing a widening range of styles and genres. The new MD will be ably assisted by two excellent accompanists, David Mawson and David Ward-Campbell.

The choir has over 50 members of various abilities and it rehearses every Tuesday between 7.30 and 9.30pm at Woodlands Methodist Chapel, Harrogate, HG2 2JJ, from late August to the end of May (Bank Holidays excepted). Its objectives are to enjoy its singing, have fun, continually improve and raise money for Charities. With regard to the latter it gives around 12 concerts er year.

The choir is managed by an elected Committee, of which the MD is an ex officio member. It has a Music Committee which the MD leads. Rehearsals, concerts and Committee meetings amount to about 50 per year and the MD is expected to attend the great majority of these.

The choir has developed an outreach project with local Primary schools, its aim being to foster life long enjoyment of singing in young children. The choir links with two schools per annum and, with joint practices, produces a "Sing Out' concert, which is thoroughly enjoyed by all. The MD will be expected to continue this initiative.

The post offers an honorarium, details of which will be discussed with individual candidates at interview.

The closing date for applications is 21st March 2020. Candidates will be sent two pieces that they will be asked to to conduct at auditions on the 7th April at Woodlands Methodist Church. Each candidate's audition will last 30 minutes. Interviews will then be held with individual candidates no later than 13th April. A decision on an offer will be made on the 14th and the successful candidate advised. All candidates are invited to attend the choir's rehearsal on the 31st March to meet its members.
