Music Director

South West

Organisation: Plymouth Phoenix Chorale

Phoenix Chorale is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Music Director to continue to develop the choir's musical and vocal technical abilities. Phoenix Chorale is a non-auditioning choir formed in 2011 which now has a membership of 45-50 experienced SATB singers who enjoy singing sacred and secular choral music, performing on average 2 concerts a year. Concert programmes prior to the pandemic have included the Magnificat by Arnesen, The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins, excerpts from Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten as well as Handel's Messiah, folk songs and spirituals. During the last year the choir has pursued an active programme of online rehearsals, as well as socially-distanced rehearsals when Covid-19 restrictions permitted. Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings during term-time at St Peter's Church, Wyndham Square, Plymouth, PL1 5EG. More information about the choir can be found at plymouthphoenixchorale.org

Additional points:

· Preferably you will be a singer and have experience of working with amateur choral groups

· You will have a good knowledge of the choral repertoire

· You will have experience of working with professional soloists and instrumentalists

· You will have the ability to engage and inspire choir members at rehearsals

· A sense of humour is essential

· You may also have experience of working with music groups online

Phoenix Chorale invites applications for the post of Music Director, which is tenable on an annually renewable contractual basis from May 2021 (or from the date of appointment if later). A stipend will be set at a competitive rate per rehearsal and for concerts. For further details about the position please contact Rosemary Best (Phoenix secretary) at rbest250@gmail.com. Please email expressions of interest and a CV to rbest250@gmail.com by 31 March 2021 (expressions of interest received after 31 March will be considered at the discretion of the committee). Shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend an audition with the choir when restrictions permit - it is hoped this may be possible in April 2021. Candidates may also be asked to attend a Zoom interview prior to the audition.
