Musical Director required for the Ratcliffe Chorale

Please note updated email contact.

Regrettably, once again the Ratcliffe Chorale is looking for a talented and motivational Musical Director, as our current leader will shortly be stepping away from her musical career to pursue other options. The choir is sad to see her go and wish her all the best. Throughout lockdown, she has led us on Zoom for Monday night rehearsals and we are working towards an informal outdoor performance in late June.

We are looking for a new MD to lead and inspire us from September 2021. The candidate should demonstrate the leadership and other skills required to maintain and develop the choir, including a willingness to work via Zoom if necessary. Our aims are to improve our performance, support the group's sense of community and maintain the enjoyment of music -making, which have been important to many members during the pandemic.

We are a non-auditioning and friendly mixed choir of around 50 singers of varied ages and mixed abilities. Pre-Covid, we met on Monday evenings from 7.15 to 9pm during term time at Ratcliffe College near Leicester and we intend to be back singing face to face as soon as possible.

The Chorale was founded 27 years ago. Since then, we have enjoyed the continuity of rehearsing and then performing our music in and around Leicestershire. Practice sessions and concerts are with piano accompaniment. Generally, the Chorale perform at Christmas and again in the summer, always giving our services freely to raise money for charities or local causes.

Our musical repertoire has always been very varied and, to satisfy and interest the members of our group, we have enjoyed learning many different genres, from classical to jazz, sacred to secular. Such a varied programme has proved to be the most suitable for our non-specialist fundraising concerts.

The successful applicant will work closely with the committee during the planning stages and will conduct and introduce the choir at concerts. The appointment will be from September 2021 and comes with a remuneration dependent on experience.

Please email a CV or letter detailing your experience to our Chair, Sue Roberts at:

The closing date for applications is 31st July 2021. Selected applicants will be interviewed by a small panel and we hope to invite short-listed candidates to direct a rehearsal of the choir as soon as is possible, depending on the situation with Covid.
