Organisation: String of Beads Ladies Choir

Due to the departure of our current Musical Director who is taking up new employment opportunities, we are looking for a talented MD to lead our choir. To start October 2021.

 

Who are we?  

The String of Beads is a contemporary 3 part female choir made up of around 20 members. We meet every Tuesday between 7:30pm and 9:15pm in our rehearsal venue in Bramley, Leeds.  

Rehearsals are piano led.  Our repertoire is wide ranging and includes a varied repertoire comprising folk, classical,  spiritual, pop  and show songs.  We generally perform for a wide range of community organisations and local charities, typically performing 6-8 concerts a year of which a number tend to be in the run up to Christmas.
 
We are looking for someone who:
  • Can help us maintain and improve, but continue to make our rehearsals fun
  • Has the ability to lead and direct rehearsals from the piano 
  • Has an understanding of singing and vocal coaching techniques and an ability to develop those techniques within the choir
  • Has good communication and people skills, to work with both the choir and the committee.
  • Has the ability to lead a choir with differing levels of technical ability (e.g. sight reading)
  • Is able to commit sufficient time to the choir to support the programme of concerts. 
The role is available on a paid basis of 2 hours per week for rehearsals (at agreed /industry rates and subject to agreed rehearsal breaks of a number of weeks over Summer and Christmas), plus additional for concerts and other reasonable expenses.

Selected applicants will be invited to be interviewed by a small panel and we hope to invite short-listed candidates to direct a rehearsal of the choir.
