Choir Leader

London & South East

Organisation: Springer Nature Singers, London

Choir leader wanted for Springer Nature Singers recreational choir - weekly lunchtime slot, London

SN Singers is a recreational choir that meets (virtually at the moment) every Wednesday lunchtime for an hour at 12:00 noon (GMT). Whilst singing virtually via Zoom we have reduced this to 45 minutes. We currently have colleagues joining from Europe, but need our new leader to join practice sessions at our King's Cross office post-pandemic. We divide the year into 3 terms of 10-11 weeks each with a half term break, and take the summer off.

We are a fun choir of mixed levels and abilities with enough singers for SATB. Some read music but it's important for our leader to adapt to those who need to learn songs by ear. As a Virtual Choir, this requires backing recordings/YouTube versions and piano accompaniment. We enjoy a variety of styles including pop, gospel, musicals and folk.

When we can sing again in person at our London office, we are keen to perform 2 or 3 times a year; as a Virtual Choir, we also aim to record at least 3 or 4 songs per year, including a Christmas song designed to be shared at our annual office party (examples of our previous work: The Wellerman, With a Little Help from my Friends, Merry Christmas Everyone).

We offer £50 per hour for a Musical Director with extra funding per term to cover music booklets, creating audio and video and external performance with accompanist.

If you are interested in this role we will be holding informal virtual interviews/auditions in January/February 2022 and would then initially appoint for a one-term trial before agreeing a permanent contract. Wednesday lunchtime preferred, some flexibility if needed but we are not an evening choir.

Further information is available online; if you are interested in discussing this further, please email vanessa.hopkins@springernature.com; deborah.anthony@springernature.com and fiona.gillespie@springernature.com before 31 January 2022.
