Organisation: Hertford Choral Society

HCS is recruiting four Choral Scholars (one each soprano, alto, tenor, bass) for the 2022/23 season (September 2022 to June 2023) whose role will be as follows:

  1. To support their respective voice parts in their learning journey in an empathic and engaging manner, singing in the core of the voice part to a high standard.
  2. Demonstrate and use good vocal and sight-reading skills and carry out warm ups if required.\n
  3. Communicate well with the MD to communicate and resolve rehearsal issues.
  4. Attend all rehearsals and performances ideally, but 80% of rehearsals as a minimum for each concert. Performance dates: 29th October 2022, 17th December 2022, 25th March 2023, 24th June 2023.

This engagement would suit students or recent graduates who must live within reasonable traveling distance to Hertford in order to attend regular rehearsals.

The scholarships will attract an honorarium of £250 per concert (£1000 pa) and the intention is that each scholar should complete at least one full year with the society.

Hertford Choral Society is a friendly, non-auditioned choir with over 110 singers which rehearses on Tuesday evenings in Hertford directed by Manvinder Rattan. We perform major choral works alongside modern pieces - four concerts each year with professional soloists and orchestras, usually at All Saints' Church, Hertford. This provides for a rich and enriching musical experience for all those involved and particularly for the successful applicants, giving access to hands-on experience with repertoire and orchestras.
