Musical Director

Yorkshire

Organisation: Pontefract Choral Society

Pontefract Choral Society is looking to appoint a new Musical Director to start in January 2017. Founded in 1874, the Society has had a long and successful history.

We enjoy a friendly and committed membership and the services of an excellent accompanist. We currently have 55 members, with a good balance of voices, and are supported by a growing number of loyal patrons.

Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings in a local church hall. Our concerts are held mainly at St Giles’ Church, Market Place, Pontefract, but also occasionally at other venues. The Autumn and Spring concerts consist mainly of classical works by various composers old and new. The Christmas concert comprises a popular mix of carols, some traditional, some less familiar. The Summer concert tends to have a more secular, light-hearted programme.

The candidate must have good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, generate enthusiasm, operate within an agreed budget and be prepared to work closely with our active and supportive committee.

He or she will also be required to liaise with, appoint and collaborate with visiting musicians and soloists. We are keen to include from time to time works in which junior choirs from local schools have the opportunity to perform with us.

Remuneration is negotiable, but will, in the first instance, comprise £70 per rehearsal, to be paid monthly. Remuneration for concerts will be variable, reflecting the number of musicians and soloists to be rehearsed, but is likely to be in the range of £200 and £300 by agreement with the committee. We propose a trial period to determine mutual compatibility. Please email your application to our Secretary (pamercer8@yahoo.co.uk). For further information please contact Mrs E Walters (Chairperson) Tel: 01977 620416.
