Soprano and Tenor Choral Scholars

London & South East

Organisation: Chiswick Choir

Following the successful inauguration of our scholarship scheme, Chiswick Choir, a Choral Society, is inviting sopranos and tenors to apply for two of four annual choral scholarships starting in January 2020. Successful candidates will be expected to attend weekly rehearsals on Tuesday evenings from 8 - 10pm at St Michael's Church Centre, Elmwood Road, W4 3DZ, in addition to around three performances a year. The scholarships are open to singers aged 18-30, or students in full or wartime music education.

Our choral scholarships are ideal for aspiring professional singers wishing to develop their choral singing and sight-reading, or in preparation for university choral scholarships, and as a means of broadening repertoire knowledge. Scholarships run for a year and are worth £750. There will be occasional solo/quartet/semi chorus opportunities, and also a chance for the scholars to receive coaching from the choir's Music Director. Scholars are expected to take an active role with social media for the ensemble, and generally support the endeavours of Chiswick Choir.

Chiswick Choir stages at least three major concerts a year, often with professional orchestras and soloists. We have an auditioned membership of between 90-100 singers drawn from the London area.

The choir is directed by Hilary Campbell, a freelance choral specialist who is also founder and director of professional chamber choir Blossom Street, and Music Director of Bristol Choral Society, the Music Makers of London and Chiswick Choir. She also runs an annual project with Judith Weir at the Royal Academy of Music, in conjunction with Blossom Street and the RAM composition department. In addition to her regular conduction work, Hilary also acts as an adjudicator, choral workshop leader and guest conductor. She is a published and prize-winning composer, and has released award-winning Naxos recordings with Blossom Street.
