Musical Director

Berkshire

Organisation: Parenthesis Choir Reading

Partenthesis, a medium-sized, mixed voice and non-auditioned choir based in Reading, wants to appoint a new Musical Director from September 2020. The choir rehearses on Saturday mornings in term time and aims to give two or three concerts each year.

What is special about thjs choir? We have been singing together successfully for around thirty years; We have a super, professional accompanist; we have strong relationships with other local choirs and musicians so have been able to explore very wide repertoire of music, including madrigals, show tunes, oratorios, and most of the major choral works both sacred and secular; and we have a vibrant twinning relationship with a choir in the French Alps which has resulted in many joint ventures at home and abroad.

What do we need from our MD? Someone with the experience to lead us across our existing range of music and offer us exciting new challenges; someone who can look for opportunities in these difficult times;someone with the commitment to handle our rehearsal schedule; someone who will work effectively with leaders of other musical groups; someone who will appreciate and understand our (financial and musical) limitations but not be restricted by them; someone who will be thrilled to be a member of our community.

How will we find you? We need to hear from you, with your CV and referees, by July 15th 2020. We will draw up a short list and then invite you for an in depth discussion, with our selection panel, subject to what is permitted by current restrictions. We would then involve the whole choir to offer their view before making an offer of appointment, which would be subject to a one year probationary period for us as well as you.
