Saffron Walden Choral Society is seeking a new Musical Director from April 2022, when our current MD will be standing down after directing the choir for 30 years. We perform at the prestigious Saffron Hall, presenting three major concerts each year, and Christmas concerts with local school children at the parish church of St. Mary's.
The choir will be celebrating its 140th anniversary in 2023 and has almost 100 members (SATB). Our repertoire includes most of the major choral works of the 18-20th centuries, along with contemporary works and commissions, including a number from our current MD, composer Janet Wheeler. We have worked with many professional musicians and notably in 2019, performed Walton's Belshazzar's Feast with Marin Alsop and the LPO.
The new MD will be required to take weekly rehearsals on Monday evenings, conduct the choir and orchestra at concerts and work with the committee, who run the society. Experience of developing choirs and choral technique will be needed, capability to plan repertoire and concert planning.
