Choral SIngers

East

Organisation: St Nicolas Church, Guildford

St Nicolas Guildford GU2 4AW, under a new Rector and Director of Music, is seeking to establish a choral foundation with paid singers on all parts, supplementing and leading the volunteers of the existing (mixed) parish choir, beginning September 2021. Applicants should be excellent singers and fluent sight readers, essentially singing as a section leader/soloist, so needing experience, vocal technique, and stamina. The extensive repertoire ranges from plainsong and Tudor composers through to 21st C compositions. Experience of singing in a choral ensemble of professional standard and a good working knowledge of the Anglican choral repertoire would be desirable. Choral music is a vital, integral, and highly valued part of the Anglo-Catholic worship at St Nicolas. Applicants should be sympathetic to the ethos and purposes of the Church's ministry. The choir sings for the Sunday 10am Mass, preceeded by a 9.30 rehearsal, and followed by a rehearsal for the upcoming weeks. The choir also sings at other major occasions during the liturgical year, such as Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, and Christmas services. It is expected that in due course a monthly choral evensong will require a choir. To maintain a consistent and cohesive group singers are expected to prioritise attendance at the required services. There will be ample opportunity for small ensemble and solo work. Applicants may send a covering letter and CV to Rick Erickson, Organist and Director of Music, at tegel@delfthuis.com by 5pm on Friday 30 July 2021. Interview appointments will be arranged as soon as possible at mutual convenience at St Nicolas Church. The estimated fee for each singer is £2600pa.
