Diocesan Director of Music

North

Organisation: Diocese of Middlesbrough

The Diocese of Middlesbrough is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and appropriately qualified Director of Music to lead the development of music within the Diocese. The Director of Music, working closely with the Dean, is responsible for the day to day provision of music at St Mary's Cathedral. The Director conducts the Diocesan Choir and is responsible for providing music for major liturgies throughout the year. However, the role extends beyond the Cathedral and into the diocese and, in addition to advising on music provision for the main episcopal liturgies at other churches, the Director works with parishes to develop choices and musicianship at all levels.

The role also involves some work within local diocesan schools, working closely with teachers and the diocesan Choral Director as part of the National Schools Singing Programme. The Director of Music will be responsible for the delivery of the NSSP in 6-8 Diocesan schools.

The Director of Music sits on the Bishop's Council for Spirituality and Worship to advise the committee on musical matters as well as providing training to diocesan musicians and arranging the music on education days organised by the Council.

The Diocese extends from Middlesbrough to Hull and York. As the role supports parishes and schools throughout the diocese, some travel is required and applicants must hold a UK driving licence and have use of a car.
