Musical Director

Scotland

Organisation: Cadenza

Our current Musical Director, Jenny Sumerling, is stepping down after 22 successful years at the helm. We are therefore looking for the right candidate to help us maintain our musical standards into the future. The successful applicant will have full responsibility for the musical programme and all other artistic matters, consistent with the Group's musical and financial resources.

We would ideally be looking to appoint the successful candidate in Autumn 2022, but this may be flexible for the right candidate.

Our choir year starts in September, with an Open Rehearsal and preparation for our Christmas concerts. In spring, we perform a number of concerts in aid of local charities and hold an all-day Workshop which enables detailed work on upcoming repertoire. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe Concert, performed in the atmospheric surroundings of the historic Greyfriars Kirk, is the largest concert of the year and includes choral works accompanied by an orchestra and professional soloists. Throughout the year, during school term time, we meet in Central Edinburgh on Wednesday evenings for rehearsal.

We have a hard-working Committee to assist with the logistics of the choir year, including concert management, and an enthusiastic membership looking forward to working with you. In return, we offer competitive rehearsal and concert fees, fees for special events (such as the Workshop) and reasonable expenses - all to be agreed with the successful applicant.

We invite anyone who is interested to look on our website to find out more about the choir and download an application pack, which contains a full job description and application form.
