Oldham Choral Society (founded 1884) is a non-auditioned, adult SATB choir with 70+ members and a strong reputation across the North West for the quality of its performances. We perform two major concerts annually, often with orchestra and often in the Royal Northern College of Music plus Christmas and Summer concerts in our home town of Oldham. We rehearse in Chadderton Town Hall each Monday evening between September and June supported by our excellent accompanist.

Oldham Choral Society is seeking a new Musical Director from January 2023 when our current MD will be retiring after directing the choir for 23 years. We are looking for an inspirational Musical Director who is able to use their knowledge of vocal technique to bring the best out of the choir and further develop its skills and who can work with amateur singers with diplomacy and understanding.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience of choral and orchestral direction and a wide knowledge of both traditional and modern choral repertoire. They will be responsible for taking weekly rehearsals, conducting the choir and orchestra for concerts, engaging professional soloists and musicians when relevant and advising the committee on programming.

The Musical Director will be appointed on a self employed basis with remuneration subject to negotiation. A probationary period will be agreed.

The selection process will include both an interview and rehearsal audition.
