Musical Director

Organisation: The Orwell Singers

The Orwell Singers is a mixed choir with no audition - current numbers are 15 sopranos, 15 altos, 6 tenors and 4 basses. We have been in existence for over 30 years and our members come from a fairly wide catchment area between Cambridge and Royston.

Our aim is to provide an enjoyable opportunity for people to sing a wide repertoire of music, both sacred and secular, for enjoyment and performance.

In addition to our regular Christmas and Summer concerts which we hold in the village hall, we now put on a concert in the Spring term in the parish church - or occasionally further afield. For example, this year we performed The Armed Man with the Garden City Singers in St George's Church, Letchworth. This year's Summer Concert will be on Saturday 8 July at Orwell Village Hall.

Our current conductor, Calum Zuckert, has been with us for nearly five years and during this time we have grown in numbers and confidence and our standard of singing has improved considerably.

We are looking for a person to continue the traditions of the choir - someone who enjoys all kinds of music, who is good at encouraging people and has a sense of humour.

We can offer a fee/expenses and we need someone from September 2023. We have an excellent accompanist who plays for the concerts but not for rehearsals, so keyboard skills would be extremely useful, but we can discuss other options if necessary.

We meet on Mondays during school term times at Barrington Village Hall, 63 High Street, Barrington CB22 7QX from 7.45 - 9.30 pm and we would be very happy for anyone who might be interested to come along on a Monday evening to meet us.

We are planning to hold auditions on Monday 12 June, but we can arrange other dates if this is not convenient.
