Following the report to the government earlier this year by Darren Henley, and the impending National Music Education Plan expected from the Department of Education in the early Autumn, the annual Musicians' Company Debate draws together leading figures from politics, education and the arts to examine current government policy towards music education.
The speakers will include:
RICHARD HALLAM MBE: Consultant, Department of Education, National Plan for Music Education
DEBORAH ANNETTS: Chief Executive of the Incorporated Society of Musicians
DIANE WIDDISON: National Organiser for Live Performance and Teaching, the Musicians' Union
Representatives of the Conservative and Labour parties will also participate.
The panel will be chaired by TOM SERVICE, leading music journalist and commentator, The Guardian and BBC Radio 3.
The debate will be preceded by a short live music performance.
Following the panel presentations there will be an opportunity for members of the audience to question the panel and make their own contributions to the debate.
The debate will end at about 7.45 pm and will be followed by a drinks reception for those attending, sponsored by The Worshipful Company of Musicians.
