The Board of abcd is actively seeking new Board members

The abcd Board is asking members to nominate someone for membership of the Board of Trustees. If you would like to be nominated, or know someone who would, please contact Rachel Greaves or the Chair Leslie East in the first instance, who can provide more information.

Specific skills and knowledge

Membership of the Board is not a task to be taken lightly: it involves a considerable commitment and substantial skills and experience so as to contribute actively to the organisation's strategic development. Trustees are also Directors of the company, with the responsibilities for governance and financial stewardship that that entails.

Most Directors undertake specific tasks within abcd 's activities. A Director will need to be strong in at least ONE of these areas in order to be able to contribute effectively to the team:

The current trustees are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who would be interested in and qualified to take responsibility for overseeing convention planning, fundraising or marketing.

Generic skills and knowledge

The following skills are required of all Directors, and all will be expected to possess these in some measure:

The availability of any Director will be governed by his or her individual circumstances. However, as a minimum, Directors should be available each year for five Board meetings and subcommittee or working party meetings, Annual Convention and the AGM, and other national or regional events as appropriate, including some meetings of the Advisory Council. Board meetings take place during normal working hours, usually midweek; Council meetings usually on Sundays.

Being a Director of abcd requires strong commitment but it is also an extremely rewarding experience. Board members invariably learn new skills as a result of their involvement, and generally meet a number of new colleagues along the way.

abcd is a charity, and accordingly its Directors are unpaid. However, all out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed and we will do our best to accommodate any special needs that Board members may have.

Third OUP Andrew Potter Bursary awarded »
This year’s Convention saw the award of the third Oxford University Press Andrew Potter Bursary. The bursary was set up in memory of founder member and former Chair Andrew Potter, who was Head of the Music Department at OUP from 1983 to 2004, as well as Chair of the Performing Rights Society, and Making Music. It offers support to an emerging young conductor to attend Convention and benefit from a variety of training opportunities surrounding it.
